What is Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of relaxation that you have experienced many times before in your life. You will have at some point in your life been so engrossed in a film, TV programme, book or task to a point where you are totally disinterested (but not unaware) of what is going on around you; possibly knowing that someone is asking you a question but you are not interested in what they are saying.
Sound familiar?
Hypnosis is nothing more than a state of relaxation and most people would jump at the chance to relax and have a little time to themselves. Wouldn’t They?
Hypnotic feeling
The main question that everyone asks is "what does it feel like to be hypnotised" and "how will I know that I am hypnotised?"
Believe it or not there is no such thing as a “hypnotic feeling” although clients have a very similar pleasant experience, saying they felt very relaxed and that of being very aware of what was going on around them - ‘Day-dreaming’ sometimes about what is being said by the therapist; It doesn’t matter what you feel because what ever you feel is the right thing for you to feel, you can’t get it wrong. As it is your own experience unique to you.
All you need to do is sit back, relax and let your subconscious mind do all work. You don’t need to worry about whether or not you are in hypnosis because the experienced clinical hypnotherapist will be monitoring your level of hypnosis closely and guide you to the correct level.
Your level of hypnosis is monitored indirectly using an electronic device, which painlessly monitors your state of relaxation using a bodily reaction called Galvanic Skin Response; apart from this, the experienced hypnotherapist can easily “see” that you are in Hypnosis through visible signs. The therapy part of the session will not take place until these indicators show that you are in the correct state of Hypnosis.
Everyone can enter hypnosis easily (remember you have been day-dreaming all your life) and all it takes is intelligence and imagine.
I have never come across anyone who does not have enough intelligence or imagination to not go into hypnosis easily. If you talk to people about Hypnotherapy then there will no doubt be those who say they cannot be hypnotised. Those people are doing themselves a big injustice because if it takes intelligence and imagination to be hypnotised then they are basically saying (without knowing it) they don’t have enough intelligence and imagination to be hypnotised!
